The sun was shining on us on Saturday morning – 8th June. About 15 FoBB volunteers met at the corner of Duncombe Road and Cemetery Road just before 10.00. There were just a few of us at first then other kept arriving, some old faces and some new people who had heard about the group and wanted to get involved. It was good to see such a good turn out.

We were soon all donned up in our blue HiVis Aire Rivers Trust tabards and gloves and litter pickers kindly supplied by Bradford council’s Cleansing department. The first area we tackled was the stretch behind the empty industrial unit. It was surprising what we found, a few old mattresses – though one turned out to be home to a swarm of bees so we left that well alone! There were also several tyres and office chair and even the kitchen sink! Then we moved across Cemetery Road behind the car wash centre and worked our way almost up to the weir.

Thanks to all concerned we ended up with quite a load for the council to collect on Monday morning. We will be tackling another area later in the year.
