Friends of Bradford’s Becks are delighted to offer schools a fun, practical and interactive
FREE one hour workshop for 7–11 year olds (Key Stage 2)
linking science, technology, local environment and community issues.
Writer, storyteller, cultural historian and Friends of Bradford’s Becks volunteer Irene Lofthouse facilitates this cross-curricular workshop to KS2 students to raise awareness of how domestic practices can negatively affect our environment, health, homes and lives. The one hour interactive session links with STEM subjects, literacy and critical thinking.
Using ‘Freddie’s House’, a specially designed model, ‘Miss Connection’ will demonstrate how everyday practices and water appliances in the home can poison and pollute the environment, especially our rivers and streams. Using Freddie’s House, participation, PowerPoint and a quiz, she’ll show how this can be easily avoided. Stickers and leaflets will be available for children to take home.

A drama and theatre facilitator, historical interpreter, deviser of site-specific theatre, and education creative content producer, Irene works with heritage and literacy organisations, museums, festivals and historic houses bringing hidden histories and secret stories to life. She’s a regular writer in residence in schools, has appeared in films, on TV and radio, and has published two children’s collections. Irene has an enhanced DBS certificate.
